We are all familiar with IP addresses, and maybe you have even heard about how they are running out of available IP addresses because there are so many users on the internet now, with home computers, cell phones, tablet computers, etc. The next version of internet protocol with many more available addresses, called IPv6, is being tested today (dubbed IPv6 Day) by Google, Facebook, and several other large websites. They are running dual sites, one with an IPv4 address and one with an IPv6 address, to test performance and compatibility.
So far, things are going well. There is not much IPv6 traffic, of course, but the important thing to note is that we “normal” IPv4 users have not noticed a difference in our internet experience, and that is as much as anyone could hope for!
